Mission Statement

Vermont CARES is a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life, create compassionate communities and prevent the spread of HIV by working with people affected by HIV/AIDS as a catalyst for social and individual change.

Services Coordination

Program Specialists are available to work in partnership with individuals living with HIV/AIDS. These services include entitlement/benefits counseling, housing assistance, access to affordable health care, information and referral to social service organizations advocacy, budgeting assistance, support/social groups, life and job skills trainings and emotional support.

Emergency Financial Assistance

Vermont CARES has access to limited funds to assist HIV+ individuals with financial emergencies related to housing and medical care, mental health counseling, transportation and treatment adherence. There are also limited funds available to access food vouchers.

Residential Facility

Located in Colchester, Vermont CARES helps provide access to 11 units of permanent, subsidized rental housing for low income, HIV+ Vermonters. On-site support services allow residents to live independantly while benefiting from a supportive community.

Rapid Oral HIV Testing

Vermont CARES offers FREE, rapid, anonymous, oral HIV testing and test counseling with regular testing hours at four location throughout Vermont. For more information on our HIV testing click HERE.

Free HIV Prevention Materials

Free condoms, female condoms, dental dams, lube, needle cleaning kits, safer sex kits, and informational brochures on HIV/AIDS and other health issues are available at all of our offices. Vermont CARES also has a needle exchange through our St. Johnsbury Office.

Community Education

HIV education presentations are available to schools and commmunity groups upon request. Presentations are led by qualified, dynamic trainers and cover a wide variety of topics related to HIV, risk reduction and skills building. Please note there is a fee for this service.
