A positive test result at this point is considered a preliminary positive. A confirmatory test needs to be done before an HIV diagnosis can be made.
This test, the Orasure test, will be offered and administered by your tester with your consent. This test is also free, anonymous and oral. However because we must send it to a lab, the results take about two weeks to come back.
We understand the emotions and stress that a preliminary positive can cause. Vermont CARES offers support to anyone during this time and can make referrals to other supportive agencies.
